As government makes frantic effort to rescue survivors and continue to bury dead bodies excavated from impact areas, passionate appeals for donations have gone wild. It is for this reason the Lebanese Community came on board to give to charity five days after holding compassionate prayers for those who died in the ruffled national disaster.
Speaking to Vice President Foh, the Acting President of the Lebanese Community, Emad Khoury, said they felt sorry as a group for the problem that has befallen the country for which they sympathize with the bereaved families and prayed for those who died during the course. He said the Lebanese Community is always up to support the government in whatever way. “We are donating these items to our displaced brothers and sisters who survived this horrible disaster,” he told VP Foh.
Receiving the relief items, Vice President Bockarie Foh said that they are not surprised to see the Lebanese Community coming in big during this trying time. “During the rebel war and the Ebola outbreak, the Lebanese stood by the country. Now again in our hour of need, the Lebanese are standing by us,” he remarked, assuring all that the items will be used for their intended purposes.
This is one among several national moves the Lebanese Community has made. They responded to the call of President Koroma on the Operation Clean Freetown scheme by donating working tools and food items worth millions of Leones.
Meanwhile, today marks the eighth day since the ravaging mudslide and flooding disaster struck our city leaving hundreds dead and thousands homeless with children being the most affected of those who live to tell the story.
