Some of the kids have lost patents, friends, homes, livelihoods, and everything in this disaster. It was amazing to see these children smiling, dancing, playing and interacting with the volunteers. The Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs and Don Bonsco Children’s Centre applauded the Serve Our Survivors project, and expressed appreciation to the organisers.

The Serve Our Survivors project seeks to bring volunteers together from various organisations to spend time with survivors across the affected communities. The project has already been implemented in Regent/ Mount Sugar Loaf and there are plans to engage other affected communities including Lumley, Dwazack, Mountain cut etc.

The SERVE OUR SURVIVORS project is being implemented in partnership with a number of voluntary community/youth-led groups and institutions including the Africa Young Voices Television (AYV), 98.1 Radio Democracy, All Works of Life (AWOL), Moseray Fadika Movement, Friends and Fans of Moseray Fadika, Moseray Fadika Children’s Foundation, Children’s Forum Network, Frenzy Network, Eli Africa, United Sierra Leone Movement, Nite Life Foundation, Young Leaders (SL), I Care Children’s Foundation, Ataya Base Organisation, Mount Aureol Women’s Development Organisation. The internationally recognised Sierra Leonean musician Lansana Sheriff popularly known as Steady Bongo, alongside traditional folk singer and activist Fantacee Wiz Kamara are part of the team of volunteers.
