The involvement of these women into agriculture within these few months has vividly transformed their lives with most of them now becoming independent and self-reliant.

The economic status of these women has changed drastically and a good number of them can now meet their children’s academic and social bills.

Saffie Mansaray is a direct beneficiary of this economic engagement and she told this reporter in an exclusive interview that she has been in this business for over 15years now.

She went on to say she has been able to provide basic necessities such as food, clothing and shelter for herself and her four kids.

Hannah Thoronka, another beneficiary in a separate interview, said her existence and that of her three children would have been impossible had it not been for her engagement in gardening.

She said her husband abandoned her and the children some four years ago without them getting any means of livelihood. She said after being introduced to the project by a friend, to this day, she has been able to fend not only for herself but also her children and other extended relations.

The project according to sources has served as not only a thriving one for deprived women but also for school going adolescents in poor homes that lack school sponsorship.

Also speaking was 18 year-old Fatmata Koroma, another beneficiary of the project. She said she joined the gardening activity whilst she was in class 6 and that since then she has been able to comfortably sponsor her academic affairs including paying of school fees and buying of school materials for herself.

She spoke on the challenges she had been facing while engaged in this activity and how it has been affecting her academic work. She said sometimes she is faced with difficulties to study especially after going through hectic gardening activities.
