She explained that the International Day of for disaster reduction was a way of bringing everyone onboard in strategizing in minimizing disaster in the country, stating that the cleaning of the drainages could be one such way for disaster reduction.

She mentioned that it was after an engagement that they all agreed that it best that embark on clearing the drainages, and according to her clearing also encompasses the clearing of the bold that was washed down to the Fullah Tong community as a result of the flooding.

Chairman for disaster risk management at the grey bush community Daniel Bob Jones stated that it was a welcoming and a timely intervention of the ONS and the IOM in an effort to combat flooding.

Daniel Bob Jones furthered that he would engage all community stakeholders to ensure that the people in the community adhere to the by-laws in ensuring that drainages are not used as a dump site that has been causing floods.

He maintained that the blockages of drainage has been a treat to their sustainability in the community whenever it rains, he added that there should be behavioral change in order to maintain a clean drainage.

Community development youth chairman at the Fullah Tong community Ibrahim Sorie Conteh pledged their commitment in ensuring that they monitor the proper disposal of waste by residents.

Many residents were appreciative of the cleaning exercise which they say could mitigate against disaster in their communities.
