China constructs world’s largest airport …five years of President Xi’s leadership

Zhu Wenxin, Spokesman for the Construction project told journalists on Monday in Beijing that the New Beijing Airport will be a new hub, new national gateway, and a new engine in China’s growth; and it will accommodate the largest traveling flow in China. “It will improve the land, air, and subway traveling,” he said.

The new airport construction is done by three major construction and engineering companies in China, namely, Beijing Construction Engineering Group, Beijing Urban Construction Investment and Development Corporation Limited, and China Construction 8th Engineering Division.

The Beijing New Airport is situated between Yufa Town and Lixian Tang of Beijing Daxing District and Guangyang District of Langfang, Hebei Province. It is 46km away from the Tian’anmen Square, 67km from the Capital Airport and 85km from Tianjin Airport.

It will be targeting 100 million passengers annually as a long-term plan, with 4 million tonnes of cargo and mail. Its immediate target is 2025 with 72 million passengers throughout, 2 million cargo and mail, 620, 000 aircraft movements, 4 runways (3 vertical and 1 horizontal), 700, 000 m2 terminal building. 

With the kind attention the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council joint effort of the relevant State Council departments, Beijing City and Hebei Province and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) positive coordination and full advance, the project entity Capital Airports Holding Company take full effort to implement the deployment, the Beijing New Airport Construction Headquarters have backed scheduling the construction period and overcome a variety of difficulties.

A large modern international aviation hub and a century project practicing the new development concept of innovation, coordination, environmentally friendly, openness and sharing are rising in the south if China’s capital.

Once the rail is completed, passengers will need only about 30 minutes to get from the airport to central Beijing.

Currently, Beijing has two airports that serve commercial flights – Beijing Capital International and Beijing Nanyuan International.

Two of the four biggest Chinese air carriers, China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines – currently at Beijing Capital – will move their main operations to the new facility and will account for four-fifths of its traffic.
