Quoting from the Holy Bible in the book of Ephesians Chapter 6, Verse 12, the female Government Cabinet Minister said: “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
According to her, Christian Leaders are watching silently as upstanding government officials struggle to do good for the country in the midst of resistance from depths of evil; sometimes executed from what are clearly spiritual realms of evil. She said the Church should not only be chastising from pulpits when Governments do wrong but also, the Church should stand up in solidarity with any official working hard to do things correctly.
She said at age 46 years, she has survived the Life Expectancy age for Sierra Leone at the time of her birth in 1971. She opined that means technically she was now a “tangains” (meaning no longer in youthful fashion). She preached that indeed she belonged to a dwindling generation. She however said Sierra Leonean voters younger than her are in the majority of registered voters and so the younger ones have the power to effect change through the ballot box. She therefore urged young citizens to realise they have power with their votes and go on to only vote for candidates who show clear willingness to reject any aspect of the status quo that exhibits evil and spiritual wickedness.
Hon. Minister Dr. Sylvia Blyden however speedily defended last weekend’s paddle masquerade as a harmless cultural display which must be encouraged and even transformed into a Tourist attraction. She said religious leaders should not condemn paddle masquerades but should focus on fighting “the real evil happenings hatched in spiritual realms against welfare of Sierra Leone”.
On that note, she appealed for an increase in intercessory prayers for Sierra Leone as we approach the March 2018 elections. She urged Christians to open their Bibles more often to pray for Sierra Leone as the country was now at a crossroad. She repeatedly called on all citizens, especially the youths, to vote for change of any status quo that endorsed evil.
