Senior Investigations Officer, Momodu Sittar in his statement said, the forum was meant to broaden the knowledge of participants on the operations of the Commission, the meaning of corruption, the evils of corruption and the benefits of curbing it. He dilated on the various offences and their penalties as contained in the AC Act of 2008. Among those offences he highlighted are, Misappropriation of Public Funds or Property, Misappropriation of Donor Funds or Property, Abuse of Office, Abuse of Position, Offering, Soliciting and Accepting Advantage. Teachers and pupils were also admonished on corruption opportunities as it was widely reported that malpractices are taking place in schools such as; bribes for admission and promotion, payment for the collection of report cards, payment for assignments, purchase of examination scripts, sex for grades, and extra charges, as these are slowly destroying the fabric of our education.
The team visited other areas within the Chiefdom and a brief meeting was held in Senehun Village, Lei Chiefdom Kono District, where the community people were educated on the Pay No Bribe campaign and the 515 reporting line followed by the distribution of posters and stickers.
The team also visited the Primary School in Senehun Town where the teachers were also sensitized on the Pay No Bribe and the method of reporting bribery and petty corruption using the 515 free lines.
In another engagement, the team in a conducted tour of the Chiefdom discovered that some heavy duty trucks transporting timber from the districts are without proper documentations. Some of these vehicles are unlicensed and uninsured and as a result the Traffic personnel attached to the Njagbwema Police check point were alerted and advised to ensure that the said vehicles are licensed before they ply the routes.
The distribution of IEC materials and fixing of posters at the Njagbwema Ataya Base formed part of the sensitization exercises.
