The United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Bryan David Hunt has proffered a two-way solution to addressing Sierra Leone’s current unstable energy crisis.
Speaking to newsmen over the weekend, Amb. Hunt said: “Sierra Leone’s current energy crisis can be solved in two ways; bringing in independent power investors which the United States has supported in various ways including Nant Energy power project and several others”.
He explained further that the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has been unable to pay its bills to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), while admonishing energy users to pay their bills to EDSA to ensure the Company is able to pay power generators.
The Ambassador also discussed several issues including Sierra Leone’s Tripartite Recommendations and the Agreement on National Unity.
When asked about the MCC in relation to energy in Sierra Leone, Ambassador Hunt was quick to point out that the country’s primary challenge at this moment is lack of enough energy generation. He said the current energy generated in the country is not enough for the population.
The Ambassador added that the two most important components that the MCC will focus on are long term power sector development and long term infrastructure development.
