He said while alive, Madam Davies did not only care for her children, but extended a hand to several other children who were less fortunate in the community.
He disclosed that when Mama Davies departed life on earth on 30th May 2010, he had the vision to establish a trust fund in her honour, but this vision became a reality six years after her demise.
Mr Davies added that his late mother was more of a giver than a receiver, noting that the bible says it is more blessed to give than to receive, and let the strong carry the weak. In this regard, the Adekunle Trust Fund will continue to help young people achieve their full potentials not only in education, but in other areas of development, as long as they are willing and committed to a cause.
Presenting the two cheques of Le 1 million Leones each to the deserving pupils, who come from very humble backgrounds, Chairman of Adekunle Trust Fund, Professor Allison Sesay gave a brief history about his life, growing up as a young boy in New England community in the early 60s, noting that his situation was even worse, because during his days of schooling, he had to make use of street light to study and do his homework.
He also disclosed that he had to walk from New England to the Albert Academy, and walk back home, but the situation did not dampen his spirit to pursue his education; it gave him more courage and strength to reach for the sky, and today he is a professor.
Professor Sesay described late Mama Davies as a woman of virtue who had love for mankind irrespective of tribe or religion, especially to those in need of education; she sacrificed to give them a chance for a better life.
He informed the school authorities that this is the first venture undertaken by the Trust Fund since its establishment, taking into consideration that the late woman was a resident of the New England community for several years until her demise.
Congratulating the two pupils, the Chairman of Adekunle Trust Fund informed them that they should work hard and take their school work seriously, noting that there are several other children in dire need of education support, therefore if they do well, the scholarship will continue, but if they drop in standards the scholarship will be discontinued.
He assured the school authorities that all things being possible, the Trust Fund will give an additional of four scholarships to deserving pupils.
Responding, the Head Master of the New England Ville Primary School, Simeon Kamara stated that since the school’s establishment in 1994 by a Liberian refugee, the school has provided quality education to children in the community despite the many challenges of adequate financial resources to pay staff, including water and sanitation.
He commended members of the Trust Fund for the support to the school, noting that children attending the school come from very humble background, but are doing extremely well in their academic work.
Mr Kamara also informed members that in 2015, the school sent 68 pupils for the NPSE, and they had 64 passes and 4 failures.
The Chairman, New England Community, Matthew Bangali encouraged pupils of the school to work hard, if they want to continue benefiting from the Trust Fund.
Both pupils thanked the Adekunle Trust Fund for the opportunity accorded them, which will serve as energizer to excel in their academic work.
