He said the launch of Afrikonet.SL marks a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s digital commerce landscape, adding that the innovative platform empowers individuals across the country—from students in Makeni and Kenema to residents in Freetown—to conveniently purchase textbooks, groceries, electronics, and more, all from the comfort of their homes.

The launch of Afrikonet.SL represents a significant step forward in enhancing e-commerce accessibility and convenience in Sierra Leone. Stay connected for the latest updates and explore the platform to experience a new era of online shopping.

In a joint message, President and Co-Founder, WidmarkValme and Alhaji Ahamd Kemokai, CEO and Co-Founder of Afrikonet Online Shopping Platform, said, “It is with great pride and excitement that we officially launch Afrikonet, a home-grown online shopping platform built for you, by you. At this pivotal moment in our nation’s digital journey, Afrikonet is here to streamline your daily life—making shopping easier, faster, and more reliable for youth and citizens across Sierra Leone”.

Delivering the keynote Speech at the event, the Guest Speaker, Abdulai Jalloh said few years ago, his friend called him in frustration after spending days searching Freetown for a car parts. “Jalloh,” he said, “this is ridiculous. Why can’t we order what we need with a click and have it delivered like in other countries?”

That conversation he said, birthed Afrikonet, but that what excites him most isn’t just the idea – it’s the Sierra Leonean ingenuity behind it. “This team studied our unique challenges: Traffic that turns errands into ordeals; sellers limited by geography; and buyers unsure where to find quality goods. Then they built solutions for us, by us (Proudly by the young Sierra Leoneans):  Verified sellers – No more worrying about scams; country-wide delivery – From Freetown to Kono; and mobile money integration – Pay how you prefer, Afrimoney, OrangeMoney, SmartPay, you can even pay on delivery if you choose to”.

Explaining the importance of AfriKonet, Jalloh said: “As someone who imports goods, I’ve seen how hard our SMEs work to compete. Afrikonet flips the script – market woman in Waterloo can now sell to Makeni without traveling; a student in Kenema can order textbooks without begging relatives abroad; and a mechanic can find parts without dismantling half the city”.

Key features include Nationwide Accessibility – Users can shop from any location within Sierra Leone, bridging the gap between urban and rural areas; Flexible Payment Options –AFRIKNET.SL supports various payment methods, including Orange Money, Africell Money, cash, and credit cards, ensuring a seamless transaction experience for all users; and Diverse Product Range – From educational materials to everyday essentials, the platform offers a wide array of products to meet the diverse needs of its customers.

The launch was climaxed with the signing of 3 social media influencers in Sierra Leone as Brand Ambassadors for Afrikonet Sierra Leone.
