In a move aimed at promoting cashless transactions and enhancing customer convenience, Afrimoney and Chicken Town have on Friday 27th June, 2025 officially launched a joint promotion dubbed “Pay with Afrimoney and Get Free Delivery.” The event was held at Chicken Town Headquarters on Old Railway Line in Freetown.
The promotion runs from June 27 to July 31, 2025, and is expected to drive mobile money usage while improving food delivery services across the capital.
Speaking at the launch event, John Konteh, Marketing Director of Afrimoney, expressed strong optimism about the renewed partnership with Chicken Town. He said the initiative aligns with a global trend toward digital financial services and cashless economies, noting that mobile money has grown rapidly since its introduction 25 years ago.
“Today, there are around 2 billion registered mobile money users worldwide,” Konteh revealed. “This growth is a testament to its safety, convenience, and speed.”
According to Konteh, mobile money usage in Sierra Leone, especially in the Western Area, has seen remarkable adoption. Citing 2024 data from the Ministry of Finance, he stated that mobile money usage in Freetown has reached 100% penetration, meaning virtually every mobile phone user in the city now owns and uses a mobile money account for a variety of financial transactions.
The partnership with Chicken Town, he said, is part of Afrimoney’s broader goal of expanding its footprint across the digital payments landscape. Through this promotion, customers who place their food orders and pay via Afrimoney will enjoy free delivery, a timely offer during Sierra Leone’s rainy season when many prefer the comfort of home service.
To access the offer, customers simply need to call 392 to place their order and pay using Afrimoney. Once the payment is made and the customer provides their location, the order will be delivered with ease, no delivery fees involved.
“We’ve set a target of 2,000 Afrimoney-powered orders through Chicken Town before July 31st,” Konteh added. “This promotion not only rewards users with free delivery but also helps reinforce Afrimoney as the default mobile payment option for food services.”
He further noted that while the current collaboration focuses on Chicken Town, Afrimoney is working to extend similar incentives to other brands and locations across Sierra Leone. Konteh concluded by thanking Chicken Town for their collaboration and pledged Afrimoney’s commitment to tracking the success of the initiative and ensuring long-term cooperation.
Also addressing the event was Nathalie Mansaray, Marketing Lead at Chicken Town, who echoed her counterpart’s enthusiasm and outlined the strategic significance of the promotion for her brand.
“At Chicken Town, we’re focused on delivering not just delicious meals, but also great service and innovative experiences,” Mansaray said. “This initiative helps us bring more convenience to our customers, particularly by integrating seamless mobile money payments.”
She emphasised that the free delivery offer is in line with Chicken Town’s broader goals for the year, which include expanding the business footprint and enhancing delivery efficiency. Mansaray also hinted at more collaborative campaigns and service innovations in the pipeline, promising exciting updates in the coming months.
With mobile technology playing an increasingly central role in consumer behavior, the Afrimoney-Chicken Town promotion is expected to not only drive digital payment adoption but also reshape customer service expectations in Sierra Leone’s fast-growing food service industry.
As July’s rainy season begins, customers are encouraged to take advantage of this cost-saving, weather-friendly offer, enjoying Chicken Town meals delivered to their doors, on the house, when they dial 392, pay with Afrimoney, and provide their delivery location.
