Sierra Leone’s President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, has arrived in Brussels ahead of the upcoming Global Health Summit, scheduled for June 25, co-hosted by the European Union, the Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

The Summit, themed “Global Summit: Health and Prosperity through Immunisation,” aims to secure at least US$9 billion from donors to support Gavi’s ambitious plan to protect 500 million children and save 8 million lives between 2026 and 2030.

This initiative also focuses on guarding the world against pandemics and addressing the impacts of conflict, climate change, and other global crises.

During the summit, President Bio is expected to deliver a keynote speech and participate in multiple bilateral meetings.

Gavi has been a steadfast partner to Sierra Leone’s health sector, providing critical support for routine immunisation programs, cold chain infrastructure, COVID-19 vaccine access, and most recently, the deployment of Mpox vaccines.

This Summit offers a vital opportunity for President Bio to establish strategic partnerships, advocate for Sierra Leone’s health priorities, and garner support to enhance healthcare infrastructure and early warning systems—ultimately transforming the well-being of Sierra Leone’s citizens.
