The Annie Walsh Memorial School Sierra Leone won the National Cyber Awareness Schools Debate 2024 with 26.6%, taking home NLe20,000 and 2 Computer Laptops among other consolation prizes.
The second prize went to the International School Limited Secondary with 24.6%, taking home NLe10,000 and 2 Tablets among other consolation prizes.
At yesterday’s Grand Finale, Nyada Ruth Cole and Esther A.A. Kamara of the Annie Walsh Memorial School, debated against Afwa Russell and Prosper F.M. Kamara of the International School Limited Secondary on the topic: ‘Social Media Influencers should be held responsible for the actions of their followers’.
The National Cybersecurity Coordination Center, in partnership with the Ministries of Communications, Education, World Bank and UNDP, hosted the Debate on debatable Cybersecurity topics from October 14 to 29.
About sixteen schools participated in the Debate for fourteen days, culminated with the grand finale held yesterday 31st October, 2024 at The View Freetown City Council hall in Freetown.
The entire event was streamed live on AYV Television from October 14 to the finales on 31st October 2024, as Sierra Leone’s brightest pupils tackle the pressing issues of social media misuse and the future of Cybersecurity.
