Among the 28 contenders for the flagbearership of the party, only a handful of them were having grassroots support in Bombali district; and these “blue eye boys” include Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara (JFK), John Bornor Sisay (JBS), Lawyer Kalokoh and Alpha Abubakarr Kanu.
After the selection of the current presidential candidate and running mate, some supporters and sympathizers of the favored candidates in the district – especially JFK and JBS expressed some disapproval for not handing the APC baton to their favorite choices.
These political sentiments expressed by various political camps seem to have corroborated with the assertion made by respective critics.
But with the arrival of the two former aspirants of the APC in the Northern City of Makeni past week, supporters of both JFK and JBS came out in their Chinese number to welcome these political figures at the Wusum Playing Grounds.
Speaking to supporters, JFK said he contested for the flagbearer race to demonstrate his leadership qualities and meanwhile continue with the development legacy of President Koroma.
During the convention, he continued, Dr. Samura Kamara was selected by the party through a divine process and the right choice was made. He said the selection of this finest Sierra Leonean among the lots was never a mistake because the candidate possesses all it takes to win the 2018 political race.
APC party being a one united family, JFK went on, any internal wrangling is settled at household level without the interference of nonmembers, while calling on his supporters to continue their unflinching allegiance to the Party because according to him, the APC is the only political party that does not only cuts across all and sundry but one that observes and respects every member irrespective of tribe or region.
John Bornor Sisay commented that the political fight within the APC is a thing of the past and that everyone must stay united and work towards the ideology of the party.
He further said each of the 28 contenders of the flagbearership race has the wherewithal to become the presidential candidate of the APC and President of Sierra Leone, but as the race was to be won by a single personality like the erudite economist – Dr. Samura Kamara, they are pleased as a united family to rally their support so that victory for all will be achieved come 2018.
Among the entourage of JFK/JBS was the Secretary General of the APC-Alhaji Osman Yassaneh who formally launched the JFK/JBS Movement for 2018 and the thousands of party stalwarts especially supporters of the two icons cheered up as a way of approval.
The North Eastern Region Chairman of APC- Ignosi Koroma reemphasized on messages aired by other speakers by encouraging supporters to be consistence with the APC ideologies – as according to him, the party has transformed the country in terms of development thereby making it an envy of attraction.
