Although reports said he was detained, Mr. Kanu insisted to journalists later that he wasn’t held.

It could be recalled that a travel ban had been imposed by the new government of President Julius Maada Bio requiring all former officials of the Koroma administration to first seek written permission from the Attorney General’s before leaving the country.

This directive was necessitated by the outcome of a presidential committee of investigation on the former administration’s activities in the last ten years, which revealed massive corruption as outlined in the Government Transition Report (GTT).

Last month the Sierra Leone Parliament voted for the approval for the creation of Commissions of Inquiry.

Apparently, Mr. Kanu allegedly flouted the directive, the reason he was stopped at the border.
