The eight accused persons are also charged with the offences of Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Murder and Arson Dwelling House, which negate Section (2) of the Malicious Damage Act of the laws of Sierra Leone.

The State alleged that Alakeh Olive Johnson, Eustace Omar Masjid Cole, Edward Joseph Moijue, John Turay, Abdul Rashid Jalloh, Tommy Joseph, Alie Conteh and Chernor Bah conspired together with other unknown individuals to murder Pharmacist Adeyemi Patrick Johnson at his 65 Old Railway Line residence at Wilberforce in the west part of Freetown.

Evidence so far adduced at the trial indicates that the eight alleged murderers committed the said act on diverse dates, between 8 November 2012 and 12 November 2012 within the Freetown Judicial District in the Republic of Sierra Leone.

The charge sheet further stated that after the accused persons had murdered Adeyemi Patrick Johnson on the above dates, they stole his Toyota saloon car with registration number: AGW 112, a computer laptop, and later set the deceased Adeyemi Patrick Johnson’s remains ablaze in his apartment at his 65 Old Railway Line residence at Wilberforce.

Unfortunately, when the matter came up on Tuesday 31 July, 2018 for hearing, the court could not proceed with the trial due to the conspicuous absence of one of the jurors, Tejan George.

Court records further indicate that Tejan George had been absent in court on several sittings, thus restraining the court from expediting the trial of the eight accused persons.

As a result of this ugly development, the presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Sam Margai slammed a Bench Warrant on Tejan George for treating the court with disrespect, by recklessly abandoning the trial process, without advancing any reasonable excuse.

The Prosecutor, Lawyer I. Kanneh informed the court that police officers attached to the court have made significant efforts to get hold of the fugitive juror, but that they are finding it extremely difficult to track.

Hon. Justice Sam Margai expressed his frustration over the lackluster attitude of Tejan George towards the court, and referred to him as a miscreant among his colleague jurors.

He submitted that they would not allow Tejan George to frustrate the course of justice, and assured the court that he  would explore all possible means to have Tejan Geroge arrested for his actions.

The eight accused persons were defended by Lawyer F.B Conteh. Hon. Justice Sam Margai adjourned the matter to 7 August 2018 for further hearing.
