Featuring two young innovators from Cameroon (an innovator of a new application dubbed ‘GiftedMom’); aimed at reducing maternal mortality and from Uganda (an innovator of an application dubbed ‘Jaguza’”); aimed at developing agriculture, Dr. Komba Kono congratulated the young men for such a brilliant idea and further encouraged them to come to Sierra Leone and share their innovation with the country’s youth.

He told them Sierra Leone has a youth village and believed that such innovations will be very much useful to youths in the country as it will further boost capacity of young people in the youth village.

“Being health personnel myself, I saw the two innovations being very much rewarding to Sierra Leone, especially towards the country’s fight against maternal mortality.

Furthermore, the doctor recommended that the two men coming together and naming their joint innovation as: “Necessity being the mother of invention”, would have made much better idea than what they are called now. According to him, both innovations came out of necessity faced by the two young youths in their early age in life where according to them, each was faced with a situation that forced them to go into innovations of such kinds.

He said this must serve as a lesson to young people that they should allow themselves knocked down by situation but rather, allowed themselves to involve in things of their choice, those that they enjoy doing rather than forced to do.

This, according to Dr. Kono will see young people losing interest in things they are forced to do against their will.

He said he will discuss the young innovator’s intent to visit Sierra Leone and will further appeals to CTO to fund their visit.

At the end of the session, Dr. Komba Kono held a closed door meeting with the Secretary-General of CTO, Shola Taylor and formerly appealed to him through CTO to fund the young innovators intended visit to Sierra Leone.

He further appealed to the CTO chief for the Organization to help Sierra Leone with ICT training opportunities, with special preference on Cyber Security which according to him Sierra Leone needed badly.

Responding, CTO’s Secretary General, Shola Taylor thanked the leadership of NATCOM for sending a very good and vocal team to represent the country at 2016 CTO Summit.

He informed Dr. Komba Kono that CTO is ready to work with CTO member states, especially countries like Sierra Leone, to combating cyber crimes among other issues affecting the ICT sector.

He said currently CTO is providing several training opportunities to member states and further encouraged Sierra Leone to put together areas of training needs and forward it to the CTO.

Mr. Taylor concluded by assuring Dr. Kono on behalf of Sierra Leone that he will deliver Sierra Leone’s appeals coupled with all that was being recommended and deliberated at the 3-day Summit to CTO national headquarters soon.
