In a major crackdown, the Operations Team of the Kambia Police Division, led by Inspector James Momoh Mansaray and supervised by LUC Murana Eric Kamara, uncovered and dismantled a dangerous palm oil adulteration scheme at Bamoi Luma Market.

Acting on credible intelligence, police arrested multiple individuals and seized 240 five-gallon containers and 11 drums of palm oil suspected to have been mixed with salt and other chemicals to artificially inflate its volume.

During the raid, officers discovered traders boiling large quantities of palm oil with additives in industrial-sized iron drums. The doctored product, allegedly intended for sale in various markets, including Freetown, posed severe health risks to unsuspecting consumers.

Authorities have documented video evidence of the operation, and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Kambia Division is now handling the case. Senior officials have strongly condemned the practice, describing it as a reckless endangerment of public health in pursuit of profit.

“This raid sends a clear message that such illegal and harmful activities will not be tolerated. We are committed to protecting the health and safety of our citizens,” said a senior police representative.

The incident has triggered public outrage, with calls for stricter oversight of markets and harsher penalties for offenders. Community members and consumer protection advocates are urging greater vigilance to ensure food safety across the region.

As investigations continue, the Kambia Police Division reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to upholding law and order while safeguarding communities from deceptive business practices.
