The ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party, have prioritised national interest above political party’s interest at the Africa Political Party Summit at the Accra International Conference Centre in Ghana.

Senior executive members from both political parties join other political leaders from across the continent to discuss democracy, governance, and development.

From the APC, Amb. Osman Foday Yansaneh briefly introduced the Party’s history as a political party that has been in both government and opposition, providing lessons from both sides. He said political parties must be custodians of long-term national aspirations, not just election machines.

In the panel, the representative of the APC in Nigeria said that, to ensure people’s involvement in national politics, they provide free seats for women and waive nomination form fees. He said there is a 50% discount on the forms for youths who wish to contest elective positions. This is to encourage more young people with low incomes to run for office.

Amb.  Yansaneh said that if the Mamamah Airport had been a national development project, it would not have been cancelled by the SLPP government, which, after the cancellation, promised to build the Lungi Bridge. He added that if the Mamamah Airport had been a national development project, it would not have been cancelled by the SLPP government.

From the SLPP, the newly elected National Chairman, Sir Jimmy Batilo Songa, followed by Hon. Paran Umar Tarawalie, National Secretary General, Hon. Mathieu SahrNyuma, Leader of Government Business, Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay, Judith Kosseh, National Treasurer, Ing. Francis Kallon, Leader of the National Young Generation Council and Moses Mambu, National Public Relations Officer.

The Africa Political Parties Summit 2025 serves as a melting pot of political ideologies, strategies, and solutions, uniting parties across the continent to discuss democracy, youth empowerment, economic integration, and good governance.

With over 40 parties in attendance from across Africa, this year’s Summit is focused on building pan-African unity through political collaboration.
