Managing Director of the AYV, Dr. Ezekiel Duramany-Lakkoh, thanked all for coming and assured that AYV will continue to meet the expectation of its viewers, listeners and readers.

Stella Bangura, AYV’s Digital and Branding Manager explained that: “We have officially launched AYV Miss University 2018 and also the AYV Charity Foundation. The AYV is the franchise holder for AYV Miss University Beauty Pageant and this year we are working on doing something different and basically in terms of whoever emerges winner we shall ensure that the winner during her year as reigning queen will be different.”

She went on to say; “this is because what we see in Sierra Leone is that a number of ladies who would emerge as winners in any contest unfortunately do not engage themselves in any form of meaningful community service.”

This year, Stella went on; “we are going to be doing something different. Whoever wins the AYV Miss University will have a pet project. She is going to have a course that she is going to be championing.”

She added, “You will find some people that are passionate about caring for children; about girl education; depending on whatever it is she (the winner) must have something she loves doing and would be engaged in doing during her year of reign with support from the AYV Charity Foundation.”

“We have a lot that we do when it comes to corporate social responsibility, the reason for launching the AYV Charity Foundation. In many cases, we have had people who sought help genuinely from AYV and we have assisted victims of last year’s mudslide among several other humanitarian ventures undertaken by AYV since its inception.”

She said the winner of AYV Miss University will receive a brand new car in addition to twelve million Leones working salary spread over a year added to several consolation prizes that would be awarded by the various sponsors and partners.

Several sponsors, including Africell, Zedzee and other distinguished sponsors and personalities graced the epoch-making event.

Current holder of the beauty crown from the Miss University 2017 Isha Bangura said she feels accomplished and fulfilled to have won such a prestigious and highly contested beauty pageant title.

Bangura is still working with AYV Media Empire to set up some of the plans she intends pursuing.
