KnowHep Foundation Sierra Leone has awarded a Certificate of Appreciation to the Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire.
Signed by the Founder of the KnowHep Foundation, Dr. Manal Ghazzawi, the certificate is awarded to AYV Television for its selfless support to the Foundation in raising awareness about Hepatitis on World Hepatitis Day 2025.
Dedicating the award, CEO of AYV, Ambassador Anthony Navo Jr., said, “Thank you to my incredible team and stakeholders. The AYV is a Sierra Leonean media organisation focused on youth development and media advocacy. It operates AYV TV Channels 33 and 34, AYV Radio on 101.7, the AYV Newspaper and Magazine, AYV on DSTv Channel 399 and AYV NEXUS Online. AYV aims to empower young Africans by providing platforms for them to share their voices and engage in positive dialogue.
KnowHep Foundation Sierra Leone’s vision is to partner with other organisations to end Viral Hepatitis in Sierra Leone. The Foundation is a prominent research institution based in Freetown, Sierra Leone, dedicated to addressing the challenges associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and related health issues. It focuses on enhancing public health through rigorous research, community engagement, and education, aiming to reduce the stigma surrounding hepatitis B and improve health-seeking behaviors among affected populations.
With a commitment to advancing knowledge and understanding of hepatitis B, the KnowHep Foundation conducts various studies that assess the impact of social stigma, vaccination rates, and healthcare access. Recent research initiatives have explored the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on hepatitis B screening practices, as well as the determinants influencing childhood vaccination rates in Sierra Leone and neighboring countries. The foundation collaborates with local and international partners, including esteemed institutions such as Harvard University and the National Institutes of Health, to foster a multidisciplinary approach to public health challenges.
In addition to its research endeavors, the KnowHep Foundation actively engages with the community to raise awareness about hepatitis B and promote preventive measures. By providing valuable insights and data-driven recommendations, the foundation plays a crucial role in shaping health policies and improving healthcare delivery systems in Sierra Leone.
