He went on to say that, such a situation has constrained the court from proceeding with matters awaiting adjudication.
Hon. Justice John Bosco Allieu further pleaded with jurors providing judicial assistance in determining cases assigned to the court to expedite the trial of accused persons both on remand and trial by making themselves available in court at all times.
He made these remarks, when a matter involving two accused persons, Mohamed Lamin Kamara alias Coke ENG and Paul Con was mentioned for hearing, but unfortunately some of the jurors were absent and the panel was therefore incomplete, and in most cases the prosecution would fail to produce witness or witnesses for testimony.
The two alleged murderers are accused of murdering Hannah Bockarie at the Lumley Beach in 2016, and stuffed her mouth and vagina with sand.
But when the matter was called, some jurors were absent in court, thereby paralyzing the entire court proceedings.
In the case of Demoh Bangura, Shollay Val Renner and David Sesay who are also facing murder charges, the trial could not go on, due to the absence of some jurors.
Police claimed that the three accused persons murdered Patrick Bangura alias Junior at his 77K Upper Tengbeh Town residence in Freetown on Sunday 9th April 2016.
The deceased, Patrick Bangura alias Junior’s remains were later found in a latrine pit at the same residence in Freetown.
Since the court could not proceed with the trial of the accused persons, Hon. Justice John Bosco Allieu ordered their detention in state custody, with the exception of the third accused person, David Sesay who has been put on bail.
The matter was adjourned to Monday 17th June 2019.
