Bengeh village of Kassipoto in Bumpeh Chiefdom has over 500 residents who are involved in teaching and faming as their most common trades and sources of living.

As a result of the distance of the hospital in Rotifunk which is 9 miles away, lots of pregnant women and sick children reportedly die because of no health center over the years.

According to Mr. Koroma the only school they have in the village has more than 100 pupils with only three teachers including him and that he is the only one that is approved by the Ministry of Education.

Mr. Koroma went on to say that the lack of good schools has negatively affected the children as most of them drop out of school, adding that the amount of children not going to school is more than those attending school.

“Since I took over as Head Teacher, we have not been benefitting from any government assistance. I even refused to send candidates for the National Primary School Examination this year because I feared that they will arrest me if I ask the parents for money to fund the pupils to take the exam,” Mr. Koroma said, adding that he did not have resources to fund the children to take the examination and that the community has only one primary school.

Mr. Koroma added that some of the pupils play truant as a result of not having food to eat and that they end up being trafficked or worse.
