Moa Wharf is one of the slum communities in Freetown that lacks basic amenities for residents. The provision of the community center by Bollore is to provide a place for social interaction for residents of Moa Wharf and it is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

Head of Communications at Freetown Terminal Limited – Bollore, Gassimu Fofana said the total cost of the community center is over four hundred million Leones which came solely from the coffers of the company.

Fofana said the company received a proposal from the community to help them build a community center, adding that the company looked at the proposal and saw it was a felt need.

“We saw the need to assist Moa Wharf with this center because we noticed that the community is deprived of such a basic social amenity and so we engaged our contractor Pavi Fort to build the facility,” he said.

He admonished community members to practice the culture of maintenance for lasting use of the facility.

“You need to keep the center up and running because if it is destroyed, it will be to the detriment of your company and a waste of company funds,” he added.

Thanking Bollore on behalf of the community, Councilor Radiatu Bashar Sankoh of ward 423 expressed her appreciation and promised that the community will be used for the intended purpose.

She recognized the effort of the former Member of Parliament towards the constriction of the community centre.

Councilor Sankoh thanked Bollore and promised that the community will make good use of the center for the development of the people in the community.

Bollore also vowed to always support Moa Wharf community to make life easy for the residents.

Member of Parliament for constituency 122 responsible for Moa Wharf, Hon. Allieu Ibrahim Kamara popularly known as Koyo said he was pleased with the support, adding that Bollore is always committed to carrying out its CSR in communities they operate.

According to him, the center is one with a difference as it will bring social interaction for residents in the community including children, adding that the community will use it for the benefit of all.

He pleaded with beneficiaries to maintain the center and use it to raise funds for the community. He said however that Bollore is poised to do more if the center is handled with care.
