Dr. Rolland Turay is an indigene of the community and he explained that, he saw many gaps at the locality at the time he was writing his PhD thesis sometimes in 2014 and 2015. According to him, such gaps were found on both the health and agriculture sectors – wherein locals were challenged in accessing quality and affording health care service; and meanwhile food insufficiency in the entire community.

As a way of assisting his people on these two deficiencies, Dr. Turay said that, he cultivated over one hundred acres of sweet potatoes during the Ebola epidemic and distributed the produce freely in other to reduce the rate of hunger at that time among his people.  He went on to say that, he has cultivated about ten thousand pineapple heads in the very community to help in the drive of food availability not only in his chiefdom, but other surroundings including Makeni.

Currently, he is harvesting a two hundred acre rice farm at Mankneh Bana and this according to him will help to provide seedlings to farmers and there will be no string attached on such provision. He added that, his aim is to enhance not only food sufficiency in the community but food security in other communities.

Baromie Tarawalie is one the beneficiaries of Dr Turay’s projects and she stated that, through the intervention of the philanthropist, a cup of rice is now sold at Le 500 in the entire community. She further stated that, they were challenged as a community in terms of accessing quality and affordable health system, but with the arrival of Dr Rolland Turay, the whole of Mankneh Community is having free medical care.

Several people have expressed the various benefits they have received from Dr Turay and these goodwill ranges from health, agriculture and education.
