The Annual Career and Talent Pool Day is an opportunity for students and lecturers to meet and interact with stakeholders of the company who enlightened them by sharing their experiences and at the same time showcased their revered work culture.

The students and lecturers also learnt about the developmental projects undertaken by the company’s employees to boost their productivity and see the various state-of-the-art equipment and automated machines that are used in the production of its products.

The Managing Director furthered that the company is also keen to know the key universities in the country that breed Sierra Leonean talents that is important to the company underscoring that the brewery believes that their employees are the key success factor for sustained business success for which their collaboration with the universities are key .

He went on to articulate that the brewery has existed in Sierra Leone for 55 years with its formal incorporation in March 1961 highlighting that their activities are always aligned with their vision which is to be an exemplary company contributing to the sustainable development of the country by creating more value to stakeholders emphasizing that the brewery is not only an institution but a family in which employees share a common culture and work collectively yearly to achieve set goals.

The Managing Director enlightened that over the years the brewery has invested over Le150 billion in Sierra Leone acting not only as an employer but also an investor, supports more than 25,000 sorghum farmers and their families due to the sorghum project launched 11 years ago, created over 7,000 direct and indirect jobs inclusive of the retailers and distributors of their products while for its corporate social responsibility, the brewery has constructed hospitals, schools and community centers through the access to the Heineken Africa Foundation and is currently involved in the construction of fully-equipped hospitals at Wellington and Calaba Town.

He encouraged the students and lecturers to make good use of the opportunity and create networks vital in building up their future as they might be opportune to be part of the brewery family.

The company’s Head of Human Resources, Mrs. Zorah Anthony revealed this is the first Career and Talent Pool Day event to be hosted by the company for which the brewery is considered the pioneer of the initiative that would be adopted within the company’s culture assuring that it would be an annual event in the coming years.  She indicated that Career and Talent Pool Days are free resource events that help potential candidates discover what is available in terms of career and job opportunities in a single location.

Mrs. Zorah Anthony went on to state that this is the first Career and Talent Pool Day event to be hosted by the company for which the brewery is considered the pioneer of the initiative that would be adopted within the company’s culture assuring that  it would be an annual event in the coming years.

She continued that it also gives employers the opportunity to meet with talents that they can source from observing that such events are not common in the country, the reason the initiative is unique and hoped that it would be a motivator to other institutions to give students the opportunity to learn about their requisite skills and requirements from potential future employees.

She disclosed that the idea is not only to offer an opportunity to learn a great deal about the company regarding its journey in Sierra Leone but to meet and interact with the management and staff who enlightened them by sharing their professional experiences and personal journeys with them.

According to the Head of Human Resources, the brewery would showcase its work and valued culture which exemplifies safety first, safety always ethos, collaboration through trust, keeping things simple and learning to improve staff individually and the company.

Mrs. Zorah Anthony added that students would realize the evident benefits of being part of the brewery family, give an opportunity to explore the different options and career paths that one could take should he/she decides to engage in a journey with the manufacturing company and urged all to learn as much as they could during the day.

The Head of Human Resources also appealed to all to ask questions that would give them an in-depth understanding of what they wish to know and develop a network of contacts which might one-day afford them the opportunity to compete and work for a wonderful institution like the Sierra Leone Brewery Company Limited.

Presentations were made by the heads of the engineering, commerce, supply chain, finance and other departments.

Fourah Bay College, Njala University College, Institute of Public Administration and Management, University of Makeni and the Institute of Advanced Management and Technology  participated in the event.

The Brewery tour, questions and answer and photo opportunities by the various colleges formed a highpoint of the event.
