The Bumeh dump site in the eastern part of Freetown has become a significant hazard for both vehicle users and pedestrians.

The waste has completely blocked the main street leading to the city center, exacerbating traffic congestion.

One of the lanes has been encroached upon by the mounting waste, making it difficult for vehicles and pedestrians to pass safely.

The situation has been further aggravated by the lack of sufficient equipment to manage the waste by the Freetown City Council.

The primary excavator used by the Freetown City Council to clear the waste has broken down, causing delays in shifting the garbage from the streets.

As a result, the waste has overtaken a substantial portion of the main road, leading to more severe traffic issues and posing a threat to public safety.

A volunteer working with the Freetown City Council expressed concerns about the situation, emphasizing the urgent need for additional resources.

“We need more vehicles or excavators and support to shift the waste inside the dump site, preventing it from overflowing onto the streets”, he explained.

The situation calls for immediate attention from the relevant authorities to prevent further deterioration.

The blockage not only disrupts the daily commute of residents but also poses health risks due to the unsanitary conditions created by the overflowing waste.

Addressing this issue promptly is crucial to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people in the eastern part of Freetown.
