Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, recently held a strategic meeting with senior representatives of Groupe Banga, a prominent West African construction and real estate development firm, to explore potential collaboration on large-scale affordable housing projects across the country.

The discussions align with President Julius Maada Bio’s national development priorities, which emphasize expanding access to dignified housing, creating employment opportunities for young people, and driving inclusive economic growth. The government’s broader goal is to tackle the national housing deficit while boosting job creation and supporting local businesses.

Also present at the meeting was Mr. Joseph Munda Sandi, General Manager of the Sierra Leone Housing Corporation (SALHOC), who described the engagement as the beginning of what could become a transformative partnership. He underscored the government’s commitment to working with reputable, experienced developers capable of bringing both technical expertise and investment capital to support the vision of improved living standards nationwide.

Groupe Banga shared details of its extensive portfolio in the region, spanning more than two decades of experience. The company highlighted key projects, including the successful delivery of a 5,000-unit housing development in Mali in 2015, valued at $174 million, and an ongoing 5,000-home project in Niger worth $227 million.

Should discussions advance, Sierra Leone could soon benefit from a similar initiative—delivering thousands of new homes to underserved communities, generating employment for builders, engineers, and technicians, and stimulating the local economy through the use of locally sourced materials and services.

Although still in the preliminary phase, the meeting reflects a strong mutual interest in forming a partnership. If realised, the project could mark a significant milestone in addressing Sierra Leone’s housing challenges and improving the quality of life for many families nationwide.
