Sierra Leone is again having significant influence on the global scene after Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh was chosen as a Co-Chair for the prestigious Global Citizen Now summit.
The summit, one of the most powerful gatherings for world leaders, will have notable people like Presidents, CEOs, celebrities, and artists attend, all united in their purpose of creating the action needed on some of the world’s most pressing issues. Sierra Leone’s ongoing engagement with Global Citizen Now is not recent.
The country has been at the forefront of the global movement for decades and has been advocating policies that promote equality, social justice, and sustainable development. Between 2018 and 2019, President Julius Maada Bio was joined by Dr. Sengeh, then Chief Innovation Officer, to a Global Citizen event in South Africa, the country’s first engagements with the movement. The past years, Dr. Sengeh has been a strong voiceat Global Citizen events. Recently, he was a special guest of the Deputy UN Secretary-General at the Global Citizen Now summit in New York City, where significant discussion on education, health, and economic development took place. Besides, President Bio was the highlight of another Global Citizen event in Ivory Coast, where he appeared as a guest speaker alongside World Bank leaders, reiterating Sierra Leone’s dedication to global partnerships for sustainable development.
Dr. Sengeh’s appointment as a Co-Chair for the 2025 Global Citizen Now summit is evidence of Sierra Leone’s growing role in global policymaking platforms. His innovative vision for innovation, education, and human capital development has gained global recognition, thus his fit to serve a platform that seeks to drive action on issues like poverty eradication, climate action, and equality for everyone.
