“Medicine shortage and poor equipment have been bottlenecks that restrict sustainable development of Sierra Leone-China Friendship Hospital for some time. After the Ministry of Health and Sanitation of Sierra Leone and the Hospital put forward the requests for medicine and medical equipment support, Chinese government paid high attention and studied positively.”
Amb. Wu said as a quick response, Chinese government decided to donate regular medicines and medical equipments every year to the Hospital with a view to improving the conditions of the Hospital and providing the patients with comprehensive and accurate treatments.
“To better support the development of the Hospital and serve the patients, today we will launch the remote pathological diagnosis platform for Jui Hospital and I deem it another important step to speed up the development of primary medical in Sierra Leone. The platform will not only help our experts to diagnose the patients for guiding the normalized treatment, carry out early screening of tumor and obtain such data as the morbidity rate of tumor at the same time; also it will benefit more accurate diagnosis and standardized treatment to the patients.
In his response, Minister of Health Dr Alpha Wurie said he wants to reiterate the point that the Jui hospital was built for Sierra Leone and it should be the leading teaching hospital. This he said will be actualized in the next two years as the ministry is working with the Chinese government to make sure the country’s health system continues to improve.
“After the Ebola, we were fortunate to get a quality P3 lab that has helped us with our tests and recently we saw University of Makeni and Njala working to detect the Marburg virus what is the step in the right direction for our health system.”
He said the pathological centre that is being setup will be good for the country as he said from Freetown they can check results from other parts of the country without a lab posted all over the country.
Dr Wurie said they have already had a positive result from IAEA after they approved the drawing for the new diagnostic building that President Bio promises.
“We will be turning the sod this year and by God’s grace the building will be finished soonest and it will come good for our citizens for diagnosis.
A representative from Hunan hospital. Dr LiJun said since 1973 China and Sierra Leone have been working together in the health system. He said in 2017 Hunan Cancer hospital undertook the remote pathology diagnosis platform project among the counterpart hospital cooperation projects of National Health Commission and Hunan Health Commission, which are aid projects for Sierra Leone Leone People of both sides all endured tremendous hardship and made incomparable efforts for the construction of the platform project.
“Here, I’m proud of the contribution made by my colleagues from Hunan Cancer Hospital for establishing the platform and I hope China Medical Team could make full use of the platform together with local experts to improve the medical condition of the Hospital.
He thanked the ministry for the concern and support in the medical cooperation between China and Sierra Leone.
