Sister Christiana Jalloh, the Nursing Officer in charge of the college clinic disclosed that the free medical treatment on campus is as a result of the visit earlier made by the Chinese Ambassador in Sierra Leone, Hu Peng to the college during which the Acting Principal, Dr.  Philip John Kanu appealed to him to assist the college with quality healthcare services. 

She also informed that the Chinese medical team performed physical and general medical examinations, EGC, ultra-sound, eyesight screening, diagnosed for malaria, sugar content and ophthalmic examination among others adding that the medical team also distributed drugs to patients for minor diseases while those with serious cases were referred to various hospitals for major diagnosis.

Dr. Mohamed Alie Jalloh, Vice Principal of the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology revealed that they are proud and very happy to host the Chinese medical team at the college, recalled the Chinese Ambassador’s visit to the college about two-weeks ago when he promised to send the medical team to offer free medical treatment to lecturers, staff and students noting that it is indeed a dream come true.

He further pointed out that medical care is one of the challenges facing the country and emphasizing that the gesture further underscores the cordial friendly relationship existing between China and Sierra Leone spanning over four decades acclaiming that the Chinese medical team has always been in the country to lend a helping hand to Sierra Leone.

On behalf of the College Council, the Principal, staff and students of the college, Dr. Jalloh heartily welcomed the Chinese medical team and wished them all the best.

Zhang Xneqian, Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone disclosed that he is delighted to participate in the volunteer medical service and on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone acclaimed the 20th Chinese medical team for their hard work and the college administration for its selfless service.

He recalled that China and Sierra Leone have enjoyed cordial bilateral cooperation for the past 45 years, recalled the Ebola outbreak when the Chinese medical team overcame difficulties and displayed selfless and humanitarian spirit of healing the wounded and rescuing the dying in order to provide timely and effective treatment that was highly commended by the government and people of Sierra Leone.

According to Zhang Xneqian, the Chinese medical team also provided health education talks to lecturers and students, another step to actively serve Sierra Leone and improved public health affirming that he holds the view that the gesture would further consolidate the pleasant friendship between the two countries and write a new chapter of Chinese medical assistance to Sierra Leone.

He concluded by encouraging members of the Chinese medical team to overcome all difficulties, treat patients effectively, cooperate with each other in order to do a good job, wished staff and students all the best and the college a bright and prosperous future.
