CIBN Nigeria honors 3 R.C Bank employees as Chartered Bankers

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has conferred Chartered Banker status on three RCBankEmployees and one from Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (Miriam Kama Konteh) after they have been inducted as Associate members by the Institute on the 22nd March, 2025 in Lagos Nigeria. The three staff who completed their last exam papers in October exams diet in 2024 are now eligible to use the initials ‘ACIB’ after their names. 

The three Staff are: Adikali S. Kamara – Head of Operations – RCBank, Aruna Dumbuya – Head of Public Relations – RCBank and Kadie Abdulai – Supervisor Finance Department – RCBank.

The program host for the CIBN 2025 Stream One Induction & Prize Awards Day (themed what next) who serves as the current Registrar/Chief Executive, Akin Morakinyo, HCIB, was officially sworn in as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB).

The program formally started with a welcome address and appreciation from the President/Chairman of Council CIBN, Prof. Pius Deji Olarewaju, PhD, FCIB, who later presented an Award of Commendation and Recognition to the Keynote Speaker Dr. Sarah Alade, OON, FCIB, Former Deputy Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria.

Statement from the Deputy Governor of CBN underscored the importance of continuous learning, strategic thinking, and professionalism, urging the new inductees to not only celebrate today but to also prepare for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Other awardees include; Dr. Bala M. Bello, HCIB, Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate, Central Bank of Nigeria, – Mr. Kayode Falowo, HCIB, Chairman of Greenwich Merchant Bank Limited, – Mr. Victor Etuokwu, MON, HCIB, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Unified Payments Services Ltd. Their statements served as a guiding light, inspiring the inductees to uphold excellence, integrity, and professionalism as they join the esteemed body of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).

The three inductees of RCBank are professional individuals who have achieved a high level of expertise in banking and financial services after going through the rigors of:

1. Educational programs and exams – covering areas such as risk management, ethics, financial analysis, and banking regulations.

2. Passed professional examinations – set by the banking institute – CIBN.

3. Gain relevant work experience – several years in banking or financial services experience

4. Commit to continuous professional development (CPD) – ensuring their knowledge remains up to date.

The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) is an umbrella professional body for bankers in Nigeria. The CIBN was incorporated in 1976 as the Nigerian Institute of Bankers. It gained its chartered Status in 1990, and is now covered by the CIBN Act 5 of 2007. The Institute is authorized to regulate the banking profession, set standards for bankers, and to maintain professional ethics through sanctions against members. 

Speaking on behalf of the awardees from Sierra Leone, Adikali S. Kamara Head of Operations at Rokel Commercial Bank expressed profound gratitude and reflected on the significance of the occasion.

He acknowledged the vital role of the partnership between the Sierra Leone Association of Commercial Banks (SLACB) and CIBN in advancing banking professionalism in Sierra Leone. Kamara highlighted the challenges faced in pursuing professional banking education in Sierra Leone. He praised the resilience of the inductees and the impact of the SLACB-CIBN collaboration in aligning their skills with global banking standards.

Kamara also extended appreciation to key stakeholders and tuition providers of the course program (Epitoney Investment, Opsy Consult Limited, and CIBN Lagos), and individuals such as Shola Taylor-Pearce, Ajayi Rahman, and ApeoluwaAwolesi. He further acknowledged the Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone for his support in fostering a strong banking sector.

He urged his fellow inductees to uphold the core values of CIBN—Trust, Honesty, and Competence while striving for excellence in the industry. Kamara concluded with special gratitude to his Managing Director, Dr. Walton E. Gilpin, for his mentorship and guidance.

Ending on a hopeful note, Kamara emphasized the inductees’ readiness to contribute meaningfully to the growth and prosperity of the banking industry in Sierra Leone, Africa and the world at large.
