The millions of United States dollars allegedly misappropriated by the officials under investigation was allocated to them for prudent and effective management of Statistics Sierra Leone, and to further conduct a credible and dependable census in the country.
The arrest of Mohamed King Koroma, and his predecessor, the accountant and heads of strategic administrative departments at Statistics Sierra Leone came as a result of a detailed report compiled by the transitional governing team, and copied to the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Richard Moigbeh, the Office of the President and the Vice President for action.
The report also highlighted high level of corruption by the officials under investigation for deliberate misuse of public funds, abuse of office and other corruption-related activities, including fifty official vehicles still unaccounted for and alleged recruitment of unqualified staff.
