The Club which started the SLCA way back in 1942 with a rich history i.e. Regent Olympic, Old Edwardians, Old Prince Waleans and Richmond Cricket Club and other cricket clubs have had their voting rights revoked by the CEO of the SLCA for the proposed June 18th June 2016 election.
Also some clubs have been given one voting slot while other clubs have two or three voting slots.
Evidence suggests that CEO, Francis Trevor Samura, who is desperate to continue in power is currently working on fake delegates list as he did in 2012 at the last elective congress when they (the current SLCA Board and Executive) went unopposed and fortunately for them at that time there was no representative from the sports council or the ministry of sports. Cricket is a gentle man’s game so it is really unfortunate for a whole CEO to be indulging in demolishing the pillars of democracy.
The current constitution of the SLCA is not optimal for the running of cricket in Sierra Leone. Clubs are not happy that the CEO took upon himself and arranged some delegates that amended the constitution which now gives him the power to appoint members into some and Executive positions.
The SLCA constitution has been amended twice in four years by the CEO just to benefit his personal interests and for some members currently in the executive to serve more than two terms as stipulated in the constitution.
The Executive and Board are constantly violating the SLCA constitution, as manifested by the abuse of their power to the detriment of the development of the game in the country.
Gabriel Anthony a former National cricketer has recently been banned for 3 years without following due process.
Since the current Executive took office in 2012, they have not presented any audited financial report to members, even though it was agreed at the last AGM in 2012 that Barton & Barton Auditing Firm should audit the SLCA financial report annually.
They are yet to present the financial report to the auditing firm. Billions of Leones have been sent to Sierra Leone for development of the game by the International Cricket Council. As the Government of HE Ernest Bai Koroma and other companies in Sierra Leone have spent billions of Leones for the development of cricket in Sierra Leone but sadly all those money have been misappropriated by the SLCA while the game is not developing in the country as it is only played in Kingtom.
Cricket is a peaceful, lovely and gentle game. We the undersigned are not happy about an article published in the Standard Times of Wednesday, 1st June, 2016 as it is very disrespectful and embarrassing to the Minister of Sports in which the CEO, Francis Trevor Samura was directly quoted by the Journalists.
We want to express our dissatisfaction with the attitude of Francis Samura attacking a Government Minister publicly is not typical of a cricket leader. Sierra Leone Cricket Association is not owned by any individual and should not be run as a private company.
The petition went further to conclude that because of the above reasons stated they undersigned clubs are respectfully requesting that the current SLCA executive and Board whose term of office have expired since 2015 to be dissolved and set up an interim body to manage the affairs of the SLCA.’
