Criminal High Court sitting resumes in Bo district

The newly transferred High Court judge to Bo and Pujehun judicial district Hon.Justice Francis Banks Kamara has during the high court sitting in Bo on Thursday 20th February 2025 disclosed that the court plays a crucial role in ensuring the courts hear and decide cases related to constitutional, civil and criminal matters fairly.

He told the audience that the High Courts have the power to review laws and government actions to ensure they comply with the Constitution and protecting fundamental rights.

He said the high court hear appeals from lower courts, correcting errors and ensuring proper application of the law.

He said the High Courts can issue writs like Habeas Corpus, Mandamus, Prohibition, Certiorari and Quo Warranto to protect citizens’ rights.

The high court judge of Bo and Pujehun judicial districts maintained that the court supervises and guides lower courts within their jurisdiction to maintain legal consistency.

Hon. Justice Francis Banks Kamara reiterated that the High Court rulings help interpret laws, setting legal precedents that guide future cases and check the actions of the executive and legislature in preventing misuse of power.

He assured the audience of addressing issues of public concern, ensure justice for marginalized sections of society and called on the public to cooperate with the court in the administration of justice.

He assured the public of speedy trial of all cases within three months as stipulated by law before calling on the prosecution and counsels to ensure parties involved in matters avail themselves for trial.

He was however accompanied by members of the Knight’s of St. John International of the Catholic Church of Sierra Leone.
