This is not the first time Dr. Sandy is championing such issues.

For many years, the acquisition and governance of customary lands in Sierra Leone is vigorously challenged as a result of gender inequality or status. The Minister of Lands Dr. Dennis Sandy disclosed that the ministry would ensure land administration and management in the country are geared towards equal access to all regardless of gender-specific or status. He added that this will serve as a platform to attract investors for development and that the Land Commission will bring people together to discuss issues regarding land administration and management.

Head of Land for Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Dr. Samuel Mabikke said FAO is committed to working with the Ministry of Lands to ensure the policy works in the interest of citizens and the country as a whole. He said this National Land Policy is one of the most comprehensive in the continent and that ti has more than 90% parts that refer to the exact content that has been agreed upon by all member states. Mr. Mabikke added that this is something Sierra Leone must be proud of.

Chairman Council of Paramount Chiefs in Kailahun District P.C. James Coker-Jajua VI commended the ministry for its move but however said he expected to see other Chiefs from the thirteen remaining districts represented. He said that Paramount chiefs are the custodians of lands and According to him the chiefs are the people who normally face the greatest land challenges especially in the rural areas. With that being said, he added the presence of other paramount in discussing issues relating to land cannot be over emphasized as there were only three chiefs were present at the meeting.
