Deputy Health Minister 2 leads free healthcare to Bonthe

A Team of Medical Experts from Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Health, led by the Deputy Minister of Health 2, Dr. Jalikatu Mustapha, is currently in Bonthe district providing a week-long free healthcare services to hundreds of residents.

Deputy Minister of Health 2, Dr. Jalikatu Mustapha, who doubles as Ophthalmologist, working at the Connaught Hospital said the tour, targeting Tihun, Moriba Town, Mattru and Bonthe Island, kicks off the first-ever Hospital-on-Wheels and Eye Health Partnership Outreach.

She said the Bonthe Health Outreach is providing free Eye Surgeries, Immunisation, Cervical Cancer, Screening, Hypertension Treatments, Diabetes Treatments, Laboratory Tests, Child Health Assessment, Family Planning Services, Mental Health Check and Health Education, among other healthcare services.

Dr. Jalikatu Mustapha said: “This week, we are hitting the road (and some water) on a mission to bring sight and healing to Bonthe district. We have big smiles and even bigger goals as we head to Tihun to kick off the first-ever Hospital-on-Wheels and Eye Health Partnership outreach trip. We are taking healthcare everywhere, even to the last mile. Our rockstar team of Health Heroes is out here doing what they do best: #ChangeLives and #SaveSight, one smile and one eye at a time.

With the key aim of bringing access to health to the people of Bonthe, the week-long outreach commenced yesterday January 7 and is expected to end on 13th January, 2025, sponsored by the Government of Sierra Leone, SightSavers and Marie Stopes Sierra Leone.
