The Director General National Petroleum Regulatory Authority has expressed his excitement to be part of the African Downstream Petroleum Regulators Association inaugural conference, held in Abuja, Nigeria.

“My gratitude goes to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, in partnership with Platts S & P Global Commodity Insight and ARDA for bringing together African Downstream Regulators, traders, refiners and operators. The objective of the conference was to have fuel market harmonisation using a common regional fuel pricing benchmark” he stated.

He further disclosed that the fragmentation of laws, policies, and standards across West Africa weakens the region’scollective leverage and stifles investment and cross-border trade. The regulators shared a common view of the policy divergence and called for regional fuel regulation policy and the adoption of a harmonised reference pricing.

On behalf of NPRA, Brima Baluwa Koroma emphasised that.

“As regulators, we are all grappling with all or one of the following regulatory challenges: volatility in global oil prices, supply disruptions, suboptimal storage capacity, infrastructural gaps and regulatory inconsistencies, hence the need for a policy harmonisation and common fuel reference pricing market and benchmark”

He concluded by expressing gratitude that Sierra Leone is part of this inaugural African Downstream Petroleum Regulators Association that will push for reforms, market stability, fuel price visibility, financing the infrastructural gap, data sharing within the region and deepening market access.
