Socio-Political Activist, Dr. Sylvia Olayinka Blyden has showered praises on the current leadership of the Sierra Leone Police, describing it as being amongst the best Sierra Leone ever had as a nation.

Dr. Blyden said: “Honestly the current Police Leadership of Inspector General (IG), William Fayia Sellu and Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Aiah Samadia are amongst the best Sierra Leone ever had as a nation”.

President Julius Maada Bio appointed Assistant Inspector General William Fayia Sellu as the new Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, replacing Ambrose Micheal Sovula, on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

Prior to his appointment, Sellu was the Director of Crime Services for the Sierra Leone Police. He has been a diligent police officer who has served the nation for a very long time now and has been excellent in his work all through his years.

Before his appointment as Director of Crimes, he was the Regional Director South for the Sierra Leone Police. While serving as the head of the region he holds a record that made the whole of the south go over a year without recording cases of arm robbery.

Sellu was the Chief Security Officer for late President Ahmed Tejan Kabba throughout his years in office and was also head of the presidential guards under President Bio. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree In Geography and Linguistics from Njala University.

As Inspector General of the Police, he is in charge of the overall administrative management of the police force, exercises independent command over the Sierra Leone Police, and performs many other functions prescribed by national legislation.

During his Oath of Office, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio noted that IGP Fayia Sellu has an herculean task to lead the Police; owing to the growing trend and overlapping issues of security-related threats and also fighting crimes in our respective communities.

The President stressed that he had no doubt in the leadership of Mr. Fayia Sellu and expressed his trust that he will live up to expectation and be able to surmount such herculean tasks.

H.E furthered that keeping the peace in Sierra Leone, as of now, is challenging, based on the fact that some groups of people always bank on inciting others to cause mayhem in society.
