The Chancellor of Central University, Dr. Muckson Sesay talks about the importance of the industrious youth to nation building.

This comes following his reunion meeting with his long-time friend, Alusine Kamara, in Columbus, Ohio, in the United States of America.

During the said visit, Dr.  Sesay reflected on his time as a young photographer at Photo World Studio in Freetown, where he spent a decade hustling.”  He fondly remembered the regular words of greeting a new customer, the buzz word of “You Kaa Snap,” which means  have you come to take a photo?  “This brings back good memories of the struggle days but also how far I have come”, adding that “this is important to the young generation as I want them to believe that hard work pays”.

Distinguishing the difference key decisions in life can make towards future prosperity, the Chancellor said, “what set our group apart was our ambition to achieve more.  Many of us sought an opportunity abroad. We were determined to succeed.  We believe that with hard work and prayers, we can succeed, and most of us did.”

His message is that young people are the future of the nation, and their diligent and tireless efforts can unlock opportunities and improve the economy.

He calls on the youth to continue to be driven and persistent in pursuit of success as their contribution will impact various sectors in Sierra Leone.

The Chancellor, who is a firm believer of youth development in nation building, reiterates his endeavour to continue to raise awareness on the importance of supporting young people to grow and develop the relevant skills needed to take part in society to reach their full potential.

The youth of any country is a great asset. They are indeed the building blocks of a nation.

The role of young people in nation-building is essential as their intelligence, work ethic and positive attitude can be an essential part of a country’s pathway to development.

This is why commentators in this field say the youth should be part of policy making, including economic and social reforms, as their contributions can be extremely essential to nation-abuilding.
