Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Energy has successfully installed a brand new transformer in Waterloo.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Eldred Taylor said the move comes just two weeks after the previous transformer malfunctioned, underscoring the government’s commitment to prioritising reliable electricity access.

During the installation and commissioning of the new transformer, Dr. Taylor highlighted the urgency and importance of maintaining consistent power supply, reflecting the government’s dedication to improving infrastructure.

He noted that President Julius Maada Bio had personally instructed him to ensure the transformer was replaced promptly, which was accomplished ahead of the usual six-week timeframe.

Dr. Taylor emphasized that the expedited replacement was a testament to the government’s responsiveness and its commitment to both urban and rural areas. “Installing this new transformer so quickly is a clear signal of how much President Bio values the needs of Waterloo and similar communities,” he remarked.

The Deputy Minister urged local residents and security personnel to take ownership of the new transformer and protect it diligently. “Our government remains attentive to your needs and will continue to address them with compassion and efficiency. We are a government with a human face,” he added.

Local Unit Commander Joe Kamanda Bongay praised the swift action, noting the crucial role of electricity in supporting police operations, especially for nighttime duties. He assured that measures would be taken to safeguard the new facility and other community assets.

Councillor Abu Bockarie Konneh also expressed gratitude to Dr. Taylor, highlighting his dedication to the region. “Dr. Taylor’s efforts in facilitating this installation demonstrate his deep commitment to our community,” Konneh said.
