Effort to curb water shortages

“In the current-third phase, the program main activities includes construction of 20 boreholes, rehabilitation of 20 boreholes and installation of 50 water kiosks as part of the consortium’s support to the Ministry of Water Resources dry season plan.” John added.

Managing Director, Guma Valley Water Company Bankole Mansaray called on community people to take responsibility of what has been provided for them, as the sustainability of the project mainly centered on them.

He confirmed that in order to ensure water reached every community they had to get out of the conventional way of doing things and that they had to use the boreholes of providing water supply in hard to reach communities.

“It has been a difficult situation to accessing water during the dry season, but with the ongoing we have been able to mitigate several challenges, in that vein, the situation is currently encouraging.” Bankole Mansaray mentioned.

Minister of Water Resources,  Momodu Maligie applauded donors partners for their support and pleaded with the people to properly take care of the boreholes, as he promised that  his ministry would be at the communities to rehabilitate the said boreholes, stating that the people must ensure the sustainability of it.

Momodu Maligie stated that shortage of water at various communities has not been responsible for the growing teenage pregnancy in the country. He furthered that providing water through the construction of boreholes was not what they have been planning, and that it happened that it the available means at the moment and that they wanted each and every household to have pipe-borne water however, the country was faced with several crisis which he said delayed the accomplishment of his ministry’s plans.

A beneficiary, Fatmata Samura thanked the ministry and partners, as she said that she had been suffering to access safe drinking water, but that situation has been tackled by the government and its numerous partners.

Samura further stated that she was delighted for availability of water supply in her community, owing to the fact that she could not  afford to buy sachet of water all the time, adding that the constrains for school going children has also been considerably addressed.
