Eleven university students from COMAHS, IPAM, UNIMAK, and other institutions paid a courtesy visit to Mohamed Rahman Swaray, Minister of Employment, Labour, and Social Security, to express their gratitude for his support. These students, raised in an orphanage, are beneficiaries of Mr Swaray’s commitment to youth empowerment through education. In a show of appreciation, the students have even established a youth farm, which they named after their benefactor, as part of their efforts to give back to society.
During the meeting, Mr Swaray, meeting most of these beneficiaries for the first time, emphasized that his support is not bound by region, tribe, or gender, reinforcing his belief in equal opportunities for all. “I am very impressed that you have not allowed your background to put your backs to the ground,” he told the students, praising their determination to rise above adversity. He added that education is “the biggest equalizer” and a path toward personal and national development.
This recent act of support follows his earlier sponsorship of eight students, who recently graduated from the Central University of Sierra Leone. His ongoing dedication to empowering disadvantaged youth highlights his belief in the transformative power of education. By investing in both current students and graduates, Mr Swaray continues to create opportunities for Sierra Leone’s youth to build better futures, demonstrating his commitment to shaping the next generation of leaders.
The students ended their visit by presenting their benefactor with a certificate of appreciation, recognizing the significant role he plays in their lives.
Mr Swaray encouraged them to stay resilient and always remember, that “the smallest act of kindness can light up a village,” urging them to also uplift others as they progress.
