Ethiopian Airlines begin direct flight to Freetown

The Ethiopian Airlines has commenced direct flight to Freetown, Sierra Leone. A ceremony celebrating the Ethiopian Airlines inaugural flight direct to Freetown was observed over the weekend at the Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The occasion was graced by His Excellency Ambassador Harold Bundu Saffa and staff of the Embassy along with the CEO of Ehiopian Airlines Group and team with a cross section of Sierra Leonean passengers travelling on the flight.

The welcome remarks was given by the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines followed by the keynote address by H.E. Harold Bundu Saffa.

The flight departed from Addis Ababa at 10:50 am this morning and for the time being, there will be three flights per week from Addis Ababa direct to Freetown and back via ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

In a press statement, the Airline said: “Ethiopian Airlines, the largest network operating airline in Africa, is pleased to announce the commencement of its thrice weekly passenger services to Freetown, Sierra Leone via Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso starting 31st May, 2024. This new route marks yet another milestone in the airline’s extensive network expansion endeavor, connecting more African countries and providing travelers with convenient and efficient travel options.

“The new thrice weekly services to Freetown will be operated using the modern and environmental friendly Boeing 787-800 aircraft, offering passengers comfortable and enjoyable flight experience. The B787 is equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, including spacious seats, personal entertainment systems, and onboard Wi-Fi, ensuring a pleasant journey for all passengers.

“The flight schedule for the new service is as follows:

ET 943 Addis Ababa (ADD) Ouagadougou (OUA) Freetown (FNA) TUE, THU, SAT

ET 942 Freetown (FNA) Ouagadougou (OUA) Addis Ababa (ADD) WED, FRI, SUN

“Regarding the commencement of the new route Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mr. Mesfin Tasew said: “We are pleased to add Freetown to our growing list of global destinations. As we take to the skies, we are proud to be part of the journey that will connect Freetown to the world, and we look forward to welcoming passengers from around the globe to this incredible destination.
