The construction of the three new bridges at the Sewa River, the Wanjie River and the Moa River has already been completed and ready for use. This project is definitely going to improve the country’s core road network and open the main gateway to Liberia, restoring a vital link between the two countries.

In a bid to make sure that the EU-funded project is not only visibly seen and ensuring that the work is properly done and completed on time, the National Authorising Office on Thursday 8th August, 2019 held their second press conference at Zimmi Town in Pujehun district. In attendance were journalists from Freetown, Bo and in Pujehun District, civil society activists, Pujehun District Council, the youth, to name a few.

Speaking on behalf of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), the Director of Road Maintenance, Engineer Alfred Jalil Momodu said the road and bridges are well constructed and fit for purpose.

Ing. Momodu guaranteed Sierra Leoneans that the road will last for as long as one hundred years while the bridges can be use for as long as twenty years. He further explained that that particular project is the most expensive ongoing infrastructure project in the country. He promised that his institution which is responsible to oversee all road projects in the country will do all it can in the maintenance of the Sierra Leone-Liberia road project. Ing. Momodu called on the communities and road users to take ownership of the road by making good use of it.

Making a statement on the EU funded projects in the country, the Director, National Authorising Office, Mr. Ambrose James said “National Indicative Programming is the decision-making process through which the EU and its partner countries define development assistance strategies, priorities and funding allocation…The 11th EDF to Sierra Leone represents €376 million in programmable funds on Governance, Education, Agriculture and Infrastructure.”
