The delegation consists of members from the African Union Permanent Representatives’ Committee, Pan-African Parliament, African Election Management Bodies, Civil Society Organisations, Independent Experts and Academic Institutions.

The Mission’s mandate is to observe the General Elections in line with the relevant African Union instruments, especially the African Union Guidelines for Elections Observation and Monitoring Missions and the AU Declaration on Principles Governing Democratic Elections in Africa and others.

The AUEOM will issue its Preliminary Statement based on its observation of the elections after the close of polls, and its final report within two months after the elections.

Namibians are voting in a tight election seen as a major test for the country’s ruling party, which has been in power since independence in 1990.

More than 1.3 million people registered to vote in the presidential and parliamentary polls, contested by 11 candidates and 15 parties respectively.
