In the spirit of collaboration and partnership, Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, joined by her deputy, Kweku Lisk and a cross section of councillors met with representatives from the National Executive of the Keke Riders Association.

The meeting was to find a solution for relocating the Keke Riders from major areas they had been using as parking spaces, as FCC prepares to plant 2,500 trees along major sidewalks, including Congo Cross Bridge to Murray Town junction, Hill Station to Lumley Roundabout, and the parts of Siaka Stevens Street. The meeting also focused on how Keke Riders could contribute towards a cleaner city.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr thanked the Keke Riders through their executive for always supporting FCC and assured them that, with World Bank support, key areas like Hannah Benka Coker Street will be beautified with flowers and shrubs as part of the FCC’s development agenda. Interim President Ibrahim Sheriff reaffirmed the executive’s commitment to supporting FCC’s efforts and highlighted the importance of collaboration and partnership. 

Meanwhile, as a way forward, FCC and the Riders Association have identified potential parking areas for the riders, with site visits scheduled in the coming weeks.
