His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, accompanied by his wife, the First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio joined the Extraordinary Summit on Political, Peace and Security Situation in the region, held in Abuja, Nigeria over the weekend.
President Bio wrote on saying: “Today, I joined my colleagues Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria, for an Extraordinary Summit on the political, peace and security situation in the subregion.
“Our resolution at the Summit has once more demonstrated our collective resolve to promote peace, unity and brotherhood in our subregion. We remain resolute in our commitment towards pursuing amicable solutions to the prevailing challenges in our Community. We are confident that we shall emerge stronger and more united in pursuit of our collective objectives as enshrined in the Revised ECOWAS Treaty”.
The Authority of Heads of State and Government of the ECOWAS convened the Summit and the ECOWAS Leaders considered and discussed the political situation and recent developments in the region.
They resolved to lift economic sanctions imposed on Guinea, Mali and Niger Republic. The ECOWAS Leaders, however, maintained that political and targeted sanctions would remain in place.
In another development, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio will be delivering keynote address at the Warwick Africa Summit 2024 to be held in the United Kingdom 3rd March this year.
