First female National Students’ Union President Sworn-In

Sierra Leone has sworn in the first female President of its national students’ Union.

At the courtyard of country’s Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, Fiona Ngima was officially sworn in as President of the National Union of Sierra Leone Students (NUSS), marking the first time a female has held the Union’s highest office since its inception.

This signifies a major step forward in gender inclusivity and progressive student leadership.

President Ngima expressed deep gratitude to the student body for their trust and support, calling her election a victory for equality and inclusive leadership. She outlined her administration’s ambitious agenda, focusing on advancing student welfare, enhancing access to technology, improving learning environments, and building partnerships to create greater educational opportunities.

She called on students across Sierra Leone to embrace unity and work collaboratively, emphasizing that collective action and solidarity are vital to strengthening NUSS and achieving its goals.

The Chief Technical Officer, principal administrative head of the Ministry, congratulated Madam Ngima on her historic leadership role. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing student development and empowering youth leadership. Recognizing the significant advocacy role NUSS plays in representing student interests, he pledged ongoing support in fostering policies and environments conducive to learning and academic excellence.

The event highlighted the Ministry’s strong partnership with student organizations in advancing educational reforms.

The swearing-in of Madam Fiona Ngima marks a pivotal moment in NUSS’s history, ushering in a new era of dynamic, inclusive, and student-centered leadership. The Directorate of Communication and Innovation at NUSS reaffirms its dedication to professional, transparent, and impactful communication as the union embarks on its mission to promote the rights and aspirations of students across Sierra Leone.
