The First Lady of Sierra Leone, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio joins hundreds of Sierra Leoneans and friends of Sierra Leone on a walk to defeat Diabetes.

The event which was also part of activities marking the celebration of the country’s medical practitioners and the birthday of President Dr Julius Maada Bio, saw walkers walking from Youyi building to Aberdeen beach in Freetown.

First Lady Dr Fatima Maada Bio said: “We are walking to bring awareness on the impact of Diabetes. This is in honour of all those suffering from Diabetes silently. Let us walk to defeat Diabetes. This Saturday morning, I proudly joined the “Walk to Defeat Diabetes” from Youyi Building to Aberdeen Beach, a movement to raise awareness and inspire action. Under the theme ‘Walk the Talk’, we carried a strong message: a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.

“I was deeply moved by the commitment of our nurses. While doctors are essential, nurses are the true backbone of our healthcare system. God gives life, but nurses help preserve it, and for that, I am grateful. I wish I could dedicate more of my Saturdays to initiatives like this. Walking with purpose and standing with our healthcare workers is a cause worth every step. Together, we can defeat diabetes”.
